Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit – Napolean Hill

Once upon a time in my life certain events left me in anger, pain and sadness. That's when I found transformational meditation and spirituality. Or should I say, it found me. I have had an eventful journey of healing. On this journey I picked up a thing or two that inspired me to teach and share with others. Before I knew it, I had established my professional practice as a spiritual mentor, meditation guide and transformational leader. It has taken me eighteen years and counting since the day I had my first big breakthrough.

Somehow helping myself and then those in my immediate sphere of influence wasn't enough, declared the Universe. In the past two years, there have been events and insights that have shown me that there is more for me to uncover and to share. And so, I listened, I paused and I embraced that yes, I did in fact have more to do in order to fulfill my destiny.

But, the Universe said, why are you taking so long? I admit, I was. I found reasons to put my higher purpose off for a month or two. After the holidays, after my birthday, after, after, after...! And the day never came. Until two weeks ago.

Two weeks ago an incident was brought to light. Something that happened to a person so close to me that only my husband and children would come before him. What I heard the Universe say was, IN YOUR FACE RICHA! There was no looking the other way, no procrastinating and no making excuses. I needed to – no, I had to make some tough decisions – and I did. It was almost like the Universe had said that all others doors will be shut until you do this. As simple as that.

In my case I found that the energy of procrastination is such that it not only was delaying what seemed like a task at hand, but in fact it was delaying my highest good. Are you willing to sacrifice the long term for the short term? Can you connect with that which has been predetermined for you, your destiny, instead of focusing on the temporary perks? Sometimes you have to give up the good for the great.

How do you spend your time, your energy? Do you spend your time aligned with your higher purpose in this life? Are you connected with your calling? Are you living your life to the fullest potential?

As we get ready to pause over the holidays and get ready for the coming new year, I hope you will take a few moments to reflect and introspect on this.

In the words of Howard Thurman - Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive.
