Pause for Power: Create the Life you Love

Pause for Power - Create the Life You Love is a collection of original, life-changing meditations presented by personal transformation coach and meditation teacher Richa Badami.

Richa's soothing voice paired with the relaxing music composed by Jim Cash creates an environment that takes the listener beyond their current surroundings and into a place of inner awareness.

Each meditation is specifically designed to focus on one of three key areas in our lives: gratitude, finding the diamond within ourselves, and embracing the fountain of creativity that dwells inside each of us. Richa gently guides listeners along the path of complete relaxation step by step, so even those new to the practice of meditation will benefit greatly. Using fundamental meditation techniques such as breathing and visualization, Richa takes her listeners on a personal journey towards the discovery of their unique purpose in the Universe and helps them connect with themselves on a deeply profound level.

Starting the Week Off on the Right Foot

Ah! Another crisp Monday morning and the girls are back in school. Somehow when the children have a pleasant start to the week and leave for school happy, it just fills my heart with joy. After all it seems like everything we do is for them and when they are happy, it makes us happy. But on the other hand, it's been nine days now since my foot has been hurting after my fall and I am beginning to google "what does a fracture feel like" on my iPhone. I decide that after dropping the girls off at their carpool and my husband off at the airport for a four day trip to Denver, CO (we live near Washington, DC) I might as well get an X-ray, just to be safe!

Within minutes of arriving at the urgent care my right foot was x-rayed and the fracture clear as day in my tarsal or foot bone. Anna, my nice nurse, bandaged the foot and gave me a fifteen second tutorial on how to use my new crutches. Wow! There truly is a first time for everything! It was strongly suggested I go...

Can I Touch God?

She had just turned five a week ago. I look in my rear view mirror and see my daughter buckled in her booster seat stretching her arm as though trying to reach the front of the car and she says, "Can I touch God?"....!!! My first reaction was "Huh, what did you say?" And she asked again, "Can I touch God?"...My daughters have asked me many interesting questions before, but this one, by far, takes the cake.

So, like any parent who doesn't have the answer to their child's question, I asked a new question, "Where do you think God is my darling?". She said, "God is in our heart". "God is in our hearts? That's right! So all we need to do to touch God and be with God is close our eyes and find him within us, right?" She looked back at me through the rear view mirror with her big black eyes taking a minute to digest what had just been said, and then looked out of her window. The next thing out of her mouth? "When we get home, can I watch the Disney Channel?". And we moved on with our day....

Slow Down, You Move Too Fast

The lyrics to this Paul Simon classic come to mind as I sit on my couch for the fourth straight day nursing a bruised foot. All it took was missing one, just one step...and I am out for the count. The Universe has been whispering in my ear, "Slow down Richa, slow down, pause...!" and here we are. I hear you, thank you, I get it.

This is the first time I have ever hurt myself like this. I took a toss walking from my car to a 7-year old's birthday party. I had barely walked five steps and found myself slipping, falling on my left hand, scraping my left knee and bruising my right foot. In the first few moments I was disoriented by the fall and felt quite certain that it was nothing, that I could get right back up. But then I tried moving my right foot, and no, it wasn't meant to be. I was hurt.

I was in a lot of pain but at the same time laughing because I knew exactly how I had created this accident for myself. The last few months have been quite hectic and I haven't really been...

Meditation in Big Business

In today's economy, the workplace has become more "dog eat dog" than ever. Competition for promotions and pay raises, vying to land big contracts, not to mention keeping up with industry competition have all lead to the creation of a more stressful work environment than we have ever seen before.

It is said that if you don't take care of yourself you are no good to anyone else. Big businesses have been taking this to heart by incorporating ways for employees to effectively deal with their stress. Now we're not talking about updated prescription plans or cost shares for therapy. The companies we are about to discuss have taken self-care one step further with the institution of on-site meditation rooms and yoga studios.

Take, for example, a woman by the name of Lindsay Van Driel, a business operations manager at Intel. Van Driel used meditation in her own life to manage stress and promote wellness and relaxation after a long day in the office. She was even taking classes to become a...

Psychology of Belief

The psychology of belief tells us what is really going on behind the scenes when we act, interact, and react with one another.

Because our beliefs are the driving force in our lives, I think that pausing to acknowledge and assess our beliefs is time well-spent.

Do you sometimes become attached to your beliefs...so much so that you have difficulty seeing things from someone else's perspective? Our beliefs have the power to build us up as well as destroy us. Take a moment to pause with me as we discuss how our beliefs have an extraordinary effect on our relationships, our families, our communities and our world.

Your Edge, Your Practice

My yoga teacher in tonight's class repeated this phrase several times – "This is your edge, this is your practice. There are no judgments. Just breathe. This is your breath. This is your practice". Such simple advice. So simple that it can get easily overlooked. We have the capacity to easily turn something simple into something complex, don't we?

I can't count the number of times I have shunned the idea of getting to the edge for fear of failure. I remember not wanting to even go to Yoga because I was afraid I wouldn't be good enough. I hadn't practiced for a long period of time and was convinced that I would make a fool of myself if I tried. I entertained all kinds of self-limiting beliefs, giving in to my fears and doubts.

There is a beautiful quote about standing close to the edge by American writer Kurt Vonnegut, "I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center."

Silence: A Gift or A Punishment?

Do you honor silence as a time for reflection? Silence is not the absence of something but the presence of everything.

It is a gift you give yourself to notice your inner dialogue. Give yourself the permission to just get quiet. Break the cycle of busy-ness and doing and allow the emptiness and silence that follows. An empty vessel has space to receive.
