New Perspective: Stand Up, Rock the Boat

“If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got.”

This quote has been ascribed to Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain and even Tony Robbins. Regardless of who said this first, to me, it’s meaning is profound: if nothing changes, nothing changes. So, my invitation to you today is to stand up and rock the boat!

I want my life to be different, but am I making different choices?

I want my relationships to improve, but am I looking at them with the same old perspective?

I want more success, abundance, peace of mind, or whatever it is that I want, but am I choosing in a way that allows for freedom from my past, or am I simply regurgitating the same old stories?

The English alphabet consists of 26 letters. We form our words and compose our sentences based on the knowledge of these 26 letters. No more, no less. Our knowledge informs our vocabulary, language, reason, speech, communication, all of it. Would you agree? It begins with...

If You Ask a Question, Expect the Answer

Occasionally I am asked if I teach a specific technique. That is a valid question but my answer isn’t simple, or short. Over the years I have studied both Eastern and Western philosophies

from teachers all over the world. While I spent the initial part of my life in India and was influenced by teachers there, my appetite for learning all I possibly could on the subject of healing, metaphysics, energy, and personal development expanded well beyond the country of India. Some of my teachers and influences other than Prema include Louise Hay, Osho, J. Krishnamurti, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Paula Horan, and Marion Rosen.

In addition, throughout my childhood, I attended different schools that taught various disciplines—among them philosophical, Catholic, and  Hindu—that broadened my spiritual perspective. I was always drawn to non-fiction books more than fiction, and our home library was stocked with volumes such as Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Zen and the Art of...

ANAHATHA: 3 Divine Downloads to Awaken the Spiritual Heart

I just celebrated 10 years of Anahatha, my spiritual transformation and personal development practice. If you have been on the journey with me, you know what a fabulous time of growth, healing, and recovery it has been! When I first began, I used the expression “Anahatha: Experience the Heart Energy”, but now, as the journey on year 11 has just begun, I am slightly modifying that to what feels true now, and that is, “ANAHATHA: SHARE the Heart Energy”!!!

In my blog last week, S.H.A.R.E, I wrote about the “divine download” I had with regards to the phrase S.H.A.R.E. And after the ANAHATHA 10 Year celebration recently, I am even more clear that S.H.A.R.E is where it is at. If you are wondering what this is all about, go back to the last blog, read that (3-minute read), and come back, and then read this blog to the end!

My heart is filled with love and gratitude to have spent the afternoon with past graduates of the I AM Consciousness Program, Retreat...

S.H.A.R.E.

Many times we feel like the road to recovery is an endless dark tunnel of gloom and despair. Some give up too early or exit the tunnel, off to yet another scenic (or painful) detour, restless in the darkness. Some go round and around, circling the drain, facing the same challenge. The lesson keeps repeating in our lives until it is learned.

Through my work in recovery, healing, and transformation for over twenty years, I have found that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that the light is within me. But first I have to really know this. And that begins with awakening and remembering…

I awaken and remember who I really am

I embrace my inner divine light

I accept that I am loved by God

I see that the light of God shines through me

I am cosmic alignment

I am Loveable

I am Loved

I AM LOVE

The journey from line #1 to line #8 is the work. It’s not for the faint of heart, but so worth it.

If you are ready to live, love...

Ready, Set, Shine!

I found a document around 6 months ago, the sheets of paper had turned a light shade of yellow. The recycled paper on the back says “Windows 98 Printer Test Page”. I haven’t been able to put my finger on the exact moment in time, or the specific context that triggered this writing. I do know that it was somewhere between 1998-1999 and that it would make complete sense if it was in that time period. It was an emotionally intense, cathartic and extremely painful time. I had been hitting rock bottom over and over again, cycling through the same self-destructive patterns of the mind and heart. I think I wrote this piece to get out of my head, observe what it was like and get it out of me. There is much to unpack here in the words that follow and I intend to uncover the subtext in this mysterious piece a little at a time...

It all begins with little noises in your head. Rising up and then going low from the front and back of the head like a Dolby surround system. The...

Forgiveness: Let’s Start at the Very Ending...a Very Good Place to Start

If you know movies, especially musicals, the popular Julie Andrews classic “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music, opens with the lines, “Let’s start at the very beginning...a very good place to start...”! As I rummage through the laundry, looking for single socks that magically disappear, something occurs to me – what if we start at the very ending? Or perhaps, consider, the ending?

I am changing things up on the blog. Today, I have an exercise for you. While reading this blog will help, doing an exercise will take it deeper and further, and I hope that you will go there with me. Grab a piece of paper and a pencil to jot down notes if you need to.

Here you go:

Step 1:

For a moment, pause to think of how you want to feel at the end of your days, what comes up for you? Where will you be? What will you be doing? Wearing? Who will be around you? What do those relationships look like, feel like? What is the expression on your face, 20, 30 or 40 years from...

May There Be Love

These are incredible times. These are intense times. And this has been one unpredictable and fascinating week. On one hand for Valentine’s day, there were greeting cards, roses and chocolates, and we celebrated the love and relationships in our life, our special relationships. On the same day, we were faced with the devastating news of yet another school shooting, this time in Parkland, FL, claiming 17 lives.

Humanity is being summoned to rise up to an incredible revolution, an inner revolution. There are many slogans and hashtags that are used in social media marketing like #metoo, #riseup, #timesup and many, many more. It is time to go beyond slogans and hashtags and BE the change we want to see in the world.

Our generation is being called to a deep awakening. Our humanity is not being merely nudged anymore. The time for subtlety has passed, now is a time for an undeniable and terrifying awakening. How do we hold steadfast in these times and move forward, authentically,...

Keeping It Together: Being Cause in the Matter of Peace

Rainbows and puppies. Unicorns and butterflies. Rose colored glasses. Life’s just peachy.

Some time ago, that was me. Always looking at the “bright side”, being “positive” and having a half-glass-full attitude! No matter what the challenge, I kept looking for the silver lining in every grey cloud. This by no means was a graceful act. It was exhausting. Imagine being tortured into looking like you are happy? Hiding your scars and smiling, pretending nothing hurts? Scratching and clawing while desperate for freedom from the pain, and no one knows.

I had spent so much energy on “keeping it together” because that’s what I understood being an adult, mature and responsible meant. I had the belief that in order to be successful I had to push everything negative, bad or faulty in my life aside, or way, way down, and never expose my pain or my flaws. Put up and shut up, that was the motto and plan. However false, keep my head held up high,...

Is There Something Under the Golden Tarp?

Imagine living in a beautiful home, a palace almost. Having cars, chauffeurs, maids, cooks, an entourage at your beck and call. A personal assistant, a wardrobe stylist, personal tailor, makeup artist, hair designer and personal trainer...all there to take care of you every day, to help you be the best you that you could be. That was my life when I had a career as a film actress. On the surface it looked like I lived this palatial, privileged and perfect life. But only I knew that inside this palace there was a pile of crap covered up with a golden tarp. (For my international readers, a tarp is a heavy duty weatherproof covering, cloth or canvas.)

Imagine having a pile of junk, scrap and old debris, stacked under this glimmering, glittery piece of fabric that you never look under. Can you picture this? Can you relate to this? I had no idea that my life had such a heavy dose of illusion, fantasy and denial. But that was how I coped with the trauma of my abusive childhood. I just...
