5 Guidelines to Ease Worrying

Have you turned on your television lately? If so, words like ISIS, Ebola, economy and Obamacare can send your blood pressure through the roof. It is difficult in today's world to keep from worrying. I've recently spoken with a number of friends who say they have trouble sleeping at night because their minds just can't shut down. With all of the stresses and strains on our lives these days it's no wonder people are weighted down with worry.

Worry is a dangerous animal. It lurks through our minds and then moves in and says a while. It fills us with self-doubt, fear, and sometimes even anger...all of which have significant negative effects on our health and well-being.

So the question becomes, "How can we stop worrying?" There is a quote I love that states, "Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles, it takes away today's peace." Today I would like to present to you my top 5 guidelines to easing your worrying mind. I know I could use a little more of all of these things in...

Are You Too Busy to Feel?

We all have that one particular friend or relative that, when invited out to dinner or to a family get-together, is always "too busy". We hear this all the time, and maybe have even used this excuse ourselves to get out of an undesirable situation once or twice. But we've got to take a step back and ask ourselves, what exactly do we mean by "busy"?

In my mind there are two kinds of "busy". There is a legitimate type of busy where life is evolving around you at break-neck speed and you are doing your level best to keep up. Many of us have children, run businesses, are active in our communities and churches...pair all of that with the day-to-day tasks of running a household, caring for automobiles and lawns, and simply making sure everyone has clean clothing and food and you have the makings of a pretty busy day, I agree.

The second type of busy is what I call "optional busy". This type of busy is where we consciously choose to remain engaged in "life" so as to avoid being...

What Does It Mean To Pause For Power?

Pause For Power.

I have been using this phrase all month long, several times a day. The other day, someone asked me to share a little bit more about what I meant when I use this phrase. So, I took the liberty of creating a special episode on "Something To Pause About" to walk you through how I describe pausing for power.

Prioritize And Simplify

Over the years I've often found myself getting overwhelmed to the point of near paralysis. This wasn't working for me, how could it? I now find that when I give up the way it looks to me, a.k.a the "overwhelm", I can just get present to what needs to get done. I begin with prioritization and then I break that down a little more and simplify my tasks even further. Now, I'm finally getting somewhere, consicously and purposefully. Experiencing my life without the drama of overwhelm is rather liberating.

Most people I know talk about this list that never gets done. I've found a way that works for me finally, and I'd love to share it with you. You can start getting clear, prioritizing and succeeding in your life immediately.

How Are You Dealing With Your Baggage?

Everyone has baggage in their lives; those nagging, self-limiting beliefs that linger in your mind that keep you from reaching your highest potential. These beliefs can make you or break you. Only you can decide what you want them to do for you.

If your beliefs are positive, you will be successful. Likewise, if your beliefs tend to be negative your journey towards success may be a bit longer and more painful. The bottom line is you will have exactly what you believe in!

Are your beliefs serving your higher good? Richa explains exactly how excess baggage is weighing us down and finishes with a thought-provoking exercise.

Creating Happiness

Happiness is a choice. When you are confronted by challenge and overwhelm how are you going to choose? There will always be some form of stress, worry and anxiety in life. Remember, there is no such thing as a stress free life. The only question is that is the stress managing you or are you managing the stress? Often happiness doesn't even get a chance. We are ready to react with our pre-set responses and miss out on being present and in the moment. Not choosing happiness often takes us away from the things that are most important to us in life.

Letting Go and Moving On

You are always exactly where you are supposed to be.

Think about this statement for a moment. Really take time to let this settle into your mind. You are always exactly where you are supposed to be. What do you think this means?

So many of us live our lives full of self-doubt. We wonder "What could I have done differently?" or "Why haven't I been able to reach my goals yet?" The fact is that many of us allow these self-limiting doubts, doubts brought on by failures or disappointments in our pasts, to ruin our present moments. This is the danger of living in the past.

When we live in the past, we are missing out on the present moment...reality, the here and now. When you really think about it, the past only exists in our minds. Our memory tells us it is there, but we can't go back to that time and place and we can't change our choices or events. When we put it that way, isn't it rather silly to spend so much of our time worrying about what could have, or should have, or would have...

Fishing In The Rain

The monsoon season in India, like snow days here in DC, would sometimes result in unexpected but always welcome days off from school. My older brother and I, with no plans for the day, no camp, day care or sitter would sit on the edge of our home's balcony stairs waiting for the water to rise as it flooded the streets and the yard all around the house. It was impossible to leave to go to the local arcade or to play with the neighbors kids even. But we found a way of entertaining ourselves.

First we made paper boats, plenty of them. We set our ships to sail on to the muggy waters that were rising around us. Occasionaly sticks, twigs, leaves and even trash like paper and wrappers would flow out from the neighboring open trash cans. We would grab on to a stick or two and begin fishing in the rain, for trash! It was more like catch and release, of course.

One way or another without complaining we found a way to stay busy and occupied making some wonderful memories and having a...

Dr. Laura Hills Interview

My interview with Dr. Laura Hills, president of The Blue Pencil Institute, was one of the most interesting interviews I have had the pleasure of conducting. Dr. Hills has developed a breakthrough system of teaching professionals how to get more out of their careers while feeling accomplished and rewarded as well. This program, "6D Framework for Career Success" is the key that her clients use to unlock the doors to their amazing futures.

Dr. Hills has reached many unique goals in her distinguished 30 year career, but above all considers herself a teacher. In this interview, Dr. Hills and I discuss the specifics of her 6D Framework, it's origins, and how this system has effected the lives of Dr. Hills' clients over the years. I hope you enjoy this interview and take a moment to check out Dr. Hills' website at http://www.bluepencilinstitute.com .
