Got Baggage?

Everyone has baggage in their lives; those nagging, self-limiting beliefs that linger in your mind that keep you from reaching your highest potential. These beliefs can make you or break you. Only you can decide what you want them to do for you. If your beliefs are positive, you will be successful. Likewise, if your beliefs tend to be negative your journey towards success may be a bit longer and more painful. The bottom line is you will have exactly what you believe in! Are your beliefs serving your higher good? Richa explains exactly how excess baggage is weighing us down and finishes with a thought-provoking exercise.

Beat Procrastination

Let's talk about procrastination for a minute. Yes, now, not tomorrow. How predictable! As much as it hurts to admit, if there was a way of putting off doing something for tomorrow or the next week, I've probably tried it! This was a habit that I developed over time and slowly but surely began to master, until....I couldn't afford to anymore. Since I wasn't in the present moment most of the time I hadn't realized what the energetic consequences of procrastination were. I was not only putting off the task at hand, I was putting off the unfolding and conscious creation of a future that I deeply desired. I spent time wondering why I wasn't witnessing breakthroughs and results? While all along my actions had been rather lackluster. A bit unfair, isn't it? To expect our intentions and dreams be manifested while self-sabotaging the very things we yearn the most?

Clean Shoes Tell No Stories

"Can we please have a weekend where we don't have another social event on the calendar? No birthday parties, no family functions, no work commitments. I would just like to wake up, relax with my first cup of coffee in the morning and have a day where I am not on a schedule!!!" A cry for help by my husband Kash and also a fair request. The weekends tend to get crammed with all the "other stuff" that cannot be scheduled during the week. As a result, all seven days on the calendar sometimes get packed with either work or non-work related activities, leaving little time to do "nothing".

Voila! A weekend we discovered we had wide open! Kash, who works 80/90 hours a week in his software sales job calls the week a "compression chamber". Come the weekend and all he wants to do is decompress, relax and rejuvenate! So here we were with the gift of free play time on our calendar. With a desire to go hiking with the kids weeks ago he had already picked out a place 20 minutes from us. He was so ...

Recognizing Opportunities for Meditation

Have you ever been advised to "meditate"? Perhaps by a friend, a colleague or even your doctor? Several well-known leaders in the personal transformation field including Oprah, Deepak Chopra, and Wayne Dyer advocate that we get present, breathe, and meditate. We may hear this advice and believe that meditation is useful, but for some of us there is a preconceived notion of what it means to meditate. And for others of us it is a matter of feeling like there just aren't enough hours in the day.

During my years of studying the different forms of meditation and ancient techniques from gurus and teachers in India I learned that there are many levels of meditation and a variety of techniques. While "sitting" is surely one of them, we practiced walking, movement, dancing, singing and even cooking as meditation. The goal was to infuse a meditative quality into our everyday lives. Simply stated, getting present and being mindful.

Instead of measuring "quiet time" by how many minutes or ...

I Choose My Transformation, Now

Somedays I wonder what is the hurry? What is the need to go from hosting one event to the next, teaching one class to another? Why not just let life go with the flow, let the classes and retreats happen when they happen and be at peace with that? After all, what has to happen will happen, right?

This is what I tell myself when I am making some excuse or another to procrastinate what I know I need to do. I can't pretend that I don't know the energetic consequences of procrastination. I know that when I procrastinate the task at hand I procrastinate my highest good along with it. Therefore, it is a choice I try not to make too often. As the proverb 29:18 goes, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." While that is true, I like to add that without action, no matter how noble, the vision shall also perish.

Let me share something you might not know about me. There was a time, almost 20 years ago when someone saw where I was in my life and took a stand for my transformation. They saw...

Gray Cloud Or Silver Lining?

"The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty". - Winston Churchill

Driving out of a parking lot after an event one morning, I saw a car with a vanity license plate that read "YOU FAIL"! Wow, really? My day had started around 5 that morning. The event I attended was great. I met a group of positive, productive people at an educational seminar. I remember I was in a pretty good mood as I backed my car out and saw the words - YOU FAIL! Nice.

After shaking my head in disbelief, the first thing I did was pick up my phone and take a picture of this one-of-a-kind license plate that I hoped I'd never see again. I still could not believe that someone would go out of their way and spend all that time to order custom license plates to then say something like that. Yes, people have the right to say whatever they want anywhere...even on their license plate, within reason and in 7 characters or less, but it costs nothing to be nice. That'...

Whelm, I'm So Over You!

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined" - Thoreau

For years I complained about the "overwhelm" in my life. "I am so overwhelmed", "there are only so many hours in the day", "there's only so much one can possibly do", etc are some of the phrases I have oftentimes used. While there is nothing intrinsically "wrong" with these phrases themselves, it is how they leave one "feeling". In my case it made me feel disempowered, helpless and experience a loss of power and control over my own life.

Energy always gets directed to where you choose to place your attention. Even with overwhelm, when you focus on it, it just gets even more intense. When I've said that I was overwhelmed, instead of being able to focus on the tasks at hand, I would get stuck mulling over the workload. Total paralysis. No movement whatsoever. In this state, the overwhelm just compounded and built up even more.

Over time and building on the practice of meditation and the "pause"...
